Palms for the Poor

Summary

Palms for the Poor is a transformative tree-planting initiative by EgyptAid | KAAF, aimed at cultivating thousands of date palms trees in the Kharga Oasis region of Egypt. This project serves as a form of Sadaqah Jariyah—ongoing charity that continues to benefit communities and donors alike.

🌿 Project Vision

Situated in the New Valley Governorate, Kharga Oasis offers fertile ground for sustainable agriculture. By planting date palms and olive trees, the initiative seeks to:

  • Provide Sustenance: The fruits harvested will nourish orphans, widows, and impoverished families, offering a reliable food source.

  • Generate Income: Surplus produce will be sold, with proceeds funding essential services like education, healthcare, and orphan care.

  • Promote Environmental Sustainability: Trees will combat desertification, improve air quality, and support local biodiversity.

🌱 Why Date Palms and Olive Trees?

Both tree species are well-suited to Egypt's arid climate and hold significant cultural and economic value:

  • Date Palms: Egypt is the world's leading producer of dates, one palm producing an average of 100kg of dates with an increase each year and a life expectancy of well over 100 years.

  • Olive Trees: Known for their longevity and resilience, olive trees provide a sustainable source of nutrition and income.

🤝How Can You Help?

Your contribution can make a lasting impact:

  • £45: Plant an olive tree.

  • £70: Plant a date palm.

  • £575: Sponsor a grove of 10 trees.

Each tree planted is a step toward alleviating poverty and fostering self-sufficiency in vulnerable communities.
